Day 1, Thursday - USA/Beijing

Depart the USA on your Air China transpacific flight for Beijing. En route, cross the International Date Line.

Day 2, Friday - Beijing
Arrive Beijing in the morning and transfer to your hotel. (Jing Guang New World Hotel)

Day 3, Saturday - Beijing/Lanzhou
We fly into the desert regions of Gansu province, landing in the provincial capita] of Lanzhou. (Legend Hotel) (B/L/D)

Day 4,Sunday - Lanzhou
Today we cruise up the Yellow River to the grottoes at Binglingsi, water level permitting. (B/L/D)

Day 5, Monday - Lanzhou/ Dunhuang
Fly across the Gobi Desert to the oasis city of Dunhuang. Transfer to your hotel. (Dunhuang Hotel)  (B/L/D)

Day 6,Tuesday -Dunhuang
View the stunning frescoes at Mogao Grottoes, which recount the legends of Buddhism as well as the customs and traditions of centuries. (B/L/D)

Day 7, Wednesday - Dunhuang/ Liuyuan
Travel overland across the Gobi Desert to the small town of Liuyuan, where you board a night train to the oasis city of Turpan. (B/L/D)

Day 8, Thursday - Turpan
Arrive in Turpan, a fertile emerald in a sea of barren earth. Underground channels of mountain water irrigate the land, which yields a bounty of grapes, apricots, and walnuts. Then visit the oncient fortress cities of Gaochang and Jiaohe. (Turpan Guest House) (B/L/D)

Day 9, Friday - Turpan/Urumqi
Arrive Urumqi by coach, traveling through the desert and onto grasslands. Tour In and around the city. (Holiday Inn) (B/L/D)

Day 10, Saturday - Urumqi/ Kashgar
Morning sightseeing at the Xinjiang Museum. An evening flight takes you to the oasis city of Kashgar, the most remote city in China. (Qinibagh Hotel) (B/L/D)

Day 11, Sunday - Kashgar
Mingle with the local populace as they assemble from miles around for their weekly bazaar. Also visit the la Kha Mosque and the tomb of Abakh Hoja. (B/L/D)

Day 12, Monday - Kashgar/ Urumqi
Return to Urumqi by air and transfer to your hotel. (Holiday Inn) (B/L/D)

Day 13, Tuesday - Urumqi/ Shanghai
Fly to Shanghai and transfer to your hotel. (Huating Hotel) (B/L)

Day 14, Wednesday -Shanghai
Visit the Bund, the Jade Buddha Temple and Yu Garden. Shop along Nanjing Road. (B/L)

Day 15, Thursday - Shanghai/USA
Bodrd your Air China flight and return to the USA, arriving the same day. (B)
 
 

 

Gobi Mongolia

6 DAYS/5 NIGHTS

Day 1, Friday - Beijing/ Ulaanbaatar
Depart Beijing by air for the Mongolian capital city, Ulaanbaatar, where you are met and transferred to hotel. Time permitting, tour the Museum of Natural History with exhibits illustrative of Mongolia's traditional lifestyle. Return to hotel for dinner, followed by an evening tour of the city. Day 2, Saturday - Ulaanbaatar / Gobi Desert
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport for a flight to Gobi base camp. After lunch, visit a
camel-breeding Camp for a camel-riding session and explore the nomad's lifestyle. Enjoy the evening calm of The Gobi Desert. Overnight in Mongolian ger. (B/L/D)

Day 3, Sunday - Gobi Desert
An early-morning drive into the mountains takes you to the Eagle Valley National Park. Hike through a narrow canyon to view a glacier that survives the summer heat, and picnic In the park for lunch. Leisure hiking in the afternoon. Return to base camp. Overnight in Mongolian ger. (B/L/D)

Day 4, Monday - Gobi Desert
After breakfast, drive 50 miles to the Flaming Cliffs (Bayan Zag) to explore the Gobi "Cemetery of Dinosaurs" and the trail of Roy Chapman Andrews. Return to base camp for dinner and overnight in Mongolian ger. (B/L/D)

Day 5, Tuesday - Gobi Desert/ Ulaanbaatar
Fly back to Ulaanbaatar in late morning. After lunch, tour Bogd Gegen Palace, home of the last Mongolian theocrat, Dinner and overnight at hotel. (Edelweiss Hotel) (B/L/D)

Day 6, Wednesday -Ulaanbaatar/Beijing
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Beijing. (B)

(Gobi Desert Trip could be replaced by an overland trip to Bayanggobi and Karakoram, if the flight to Gobi Desert is cancelled.)
